Dr. James Shepherd is a Clinical Psychologist at The Behavioral Assessment Center, located in the heart of south Orange County. The Center evaluates and treats a variety of mental health concerns that affect children, teenagers, adults, and families. Dr. Shepherd is experienced in successfully treating a wide array of emotional and behavioral difficulties in children through adults.

What types of problems can Dr. Shepherd help with?
Dr. Shepherd treats a variety of problems, such as -
Anxiety (such as general worry, panic attacks, social anxiety and phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and anxiety during or after pregnancy)
Mood-related difficulties (such as depression, Bipolar Disorder, from a concussion or mild traumatic brain injury, or depression during or after pregnancy)
Personality issues (such as Borderline Personality Disorder)
Behavioral problems and difficulties associated with ADD/ADHD, oppositional behavior, and poor social and/or coping skills
Challenges with alcohol and/or substance abuse
Problems with sleep, such as insomnia
He can help you to improve your:
ability to cope with stress
communication and relationship skills
parenting skills
behaviors which have negatively affected work or school functioning
And for children and teens, he can help them to improve their emotional functioning that has been interfering with academic success often observed as problems with:
Motivation (taking action toward a desired goal)
Intiative (actually getting started on tasks)
Following through on tasks
Organizational skills and planning daily and future tasks
Getting homework home and actually turning it in
Dr. Shepherd also offers psychological testing (ages 6 to adult):
Psychological testing is especially useful in cases when diagnostic clarity is needed in order to inform treatment and improve the chances of symptom resolution.
